Current psychotherapy

After fifty years of psychotherapy research, two facts stand out:

  • For the therapy to be effective, client and therapist need a good working relation.
  • There is no one method that works best for everyone or all possible problems.

In current psychotherapy, the first focus is on a good working relation. This does not mean that therapists try to please their clients. It means that they work together with the client to find a way forward that feels safe and effective. Client and therapist jointly define the goals of treatment and continuously evaluate progress. By doing this in a relaxed but detailed fashion, the client will discover new opportunities for progress.

Person-Centered & Experiential

Together with fellow-practitioners from all over the world, members of the WAPCEPC strive to integrate a classic counseling approach with up-to-date experiential protocols. Through informed dialogue with clients, they offer in-session exercises and/or homework. Every client thus receives a unique, tailor-made treatment, embedded within a genuine personal encounter.
